For the outdoor use
- The reindeer skin has a silicone-treated backside, which makes it resistant to moisture and some dampness. However, if the reindeer leather is exposed to too much moisture or for an extended period, there is a high risk that it will shed a lot of hair.
- It is important that when the reindeer skin is not in use, it should be air-dried at room temperature. The leather should be hung in its full length (not rolled up).
For the indoor use
- If you wish to place reindeer skin on the floor place a fine mesh net or anti-slip mat under the leather on the floor to allow air circulation. Please note that hairs are very thin and can break if walked on.
- If hanged on the wall as interior decoration, ensure there is sufficient air circulation to avoid condensation.
If air circulation is inadequate, moisture/condensation can form on the leather side, which may cause the reindeer leather to shed a lot of hair.
Storage
- Remove the carrying strap and hang the reindeer skin between uses.
- Store it in a well-ventilated area and avoid high temperatures.
- Do not dry near heat sources or expose it to direct sunlight.
- We recommend to avoid have pets on skins as it may result that reindeer fur will shed.
Cleaning
- Brush, vacuum clean, or shake the reindeer leather to keep it clean.
- For tougher stains, use a sponge dampened with a mild soap solution and gently rub over the stain.
- Allow the leather to air dry after cleaning, and avoid rubbing too hard.
Flattening of hair
Moisten your hand with a little water and smooth the fur with the grain to flatten it.
Shedding
The Dalum Reindeer skins have a silicone-treated leather side, which makes the reindeer leather more resistant to moisture and dampness compared to untreated reindeer leather. By preventing moisture from coming into contact with the roots of the hairs, the risk of hair loss is minimized. When the leather becomes damp, the hairs and hair roots get wet, causing the hair follicles to expand, which in turn leads to the hair shedding. The silicone treatment helps minimize this effect during normal use. However, if the leather is exposed to moisture and dampness for an extended period, the silicone protection will not stop the process, and the reindeer leather will start shedding a lot of hair.
It is important that when the reindeer leather is not in use, it should air dry at room temperature. Since reindeer leather is a completely natural product, some hair loss is entirely natural and unfortunately cannot be fully avoided. Therefore, no guarantee is provided regarding hair loss on Dalum Reindeer Leather Ward.
