Seasoning process for griddle - step by step
Before you start cooking on your new Dalum Griddle the griddle needs to be seasoned.
The seasoning process creates a surface that provides good cooking properties and that
is easy to clean and maintain. The more you use your Griddle, the better it will be!
Seasoning of Griddle - Step by step instructions:
1. Clean the new Dalum griddle with warm water and mild detergent.
Rinse in water and wipe dry (a wet and not seasoned griddle easily gets rust stains).
2. Apply a thin layer of food grade fat using a cloth.
Cooking oil is excellent, such as rapeseed oil.
3. Heat the griddle for a few minutes, e.g. over a gas burner for griddles,
the grill or over an open fire. Exactly how long it takes depends on which
heat source used. Direct heat helps the seasong so it is recommended that the footprint of the
heat source is somewhat similar to the diameter of the griddle.
The griddle will start to darken from the center outwards, you will see some smoke
from the surface during the seasoning process when the fat is burnt in. If needed apply another
thin layer of fat. Repeat until you are satisfied.
If you manage to get the whole griddle dark it is good as it gives the griddle a little better
cooking properties and a little easier to clean as well as somewhat better protection against
rust stains.
But if you do not get the whole griddle dark after the seasoning don’t worry - the more you
use your griddle the better seasoned it will be.
4. Remove the griddle from the heat source and allow to cool in ambient temperature. As a final
step apply a thin layer of fat to the griddle and it will be in good condition for your next
cooking. Store in a dry place.
