Smash Burgers on a Griddle over Charcoal Grill
This is flavor on another level – smash burgers cooked on a griddle over a charcoal grill using high-quality Swedish charcoal from Älvdalskol. Intense heat, juicy beef, and a hint of truffle. It doesn't get better than this.
You’ll need (for 4 burgers):
-
400 g ground chuck (about 100 g per patty)
-
4 slices aged cheddar cheese
-
4 brioche or hamburger buns
-
1 tomato, sliced
-
Fresh lettuce leaves
-
Truffle mayonnaise
-
Butter or oil for frying
-
Salt & black pepper
-
Charcoal from Älvdalskol
-
Charcoal grill and griddle
Instructions:
-
Fire up the grill with charcoal
Use plenty of charcoal in your grill. Once the coals are glowing, place the griddle on top. You want a high, even heat across the surface. -
Form the meat
Divide the beef into four loose balls – don’t season yet. They’ll be smashed directly on the griddle for that perfect crust. -
Prep your toppings
Slice the tomato, rinse the lettuce. Cut the buns in half and toast them lightly on the griddle. Have your truffle mayo ready. -
Smash the burgers
Place the beef balls on the griddle and press them down hard with a spatula. Cook for 1.5–2 minutes until a crust forms. Season with salt and pepper. -
Flip and add cheese
Flip the patties and immediately top each with a slice of cheddar. Cook another 30–60 seconds until the cheese is melted. Cover the grill briefly to help melt the cheese if needed. -
Build your burger
Spread truffle mayo on the bun, add lettuce, tomato, the smashed cheeseburger, and finish with the top bun.
Tips:
-
Use ground beef with a higher fat content for juicier results.
-
Älvdalskuol charcoal from birch adds subtle smoke and strong heat – ideal for burgers.
-
Don’t be shy with the truffle mayo – it’s the flavor booster.
